3. Indications for Use.

Used for treatment of type 2 diabetes of adults, when therapy with diet proved to be insufficient, especially in treatment of obese patients. Can be used as additional treatment of type 1 diabetes in combination with insulin treatment.

4. Action

Metformin works by deflating the glucose concentration, lowers the absorption of carbohydrates, rises the level of glucose tolerance, lowers the body weight.

5. Posology and Administration

Posology f medication should be defined individually. Metformin is made for oral administration and should be taken right after mean. Patient, who do not use insulin should take 1g (2 tablets) twice a day during the first 3 days of treatment, and then continue with 1g three times a day for a period from the 4th to the 14 day of treatment. Starting with the 15th day of treatment, dosage of Metformin can be lowered depending on the content of glucose in urine and blood. The daily supporting dose of Metformin is 1-2g. Retard pills or 85omg should be taken twice a day in the morning and evening. The highest allowed dose is 3 g per day.
If the drug is used stimultaneously with insulin, it will require serious care and should be performed in hospital conditions.

6. Counterindications

Hypersensitivity, childhood age (as the safety and efficiency of application of the medicine on children has not been defined), elderly age of over 65 years old, diseases of kidney, compromised evidenced functioning of liver, failure of respiratory system or heart, serious traumas or surgeries, pregnancy, chronic alcoholism, breastfeeding.

7. Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…

Perform control of kidney functioning and composition of blood in the process of treatment. DO not perform hard physical activities in the process of treatment.
Simultaneous use of Metformin with insulin should be only done in the conditions of hospital.

8. Interface with Other Medications

Combination with other medication may cause interface, leading to serious side effects. It is advised to inform your doctor about any medications, which you are currently taking, or have taken in the recent time. Advice with your doctor regarding the possibility of combination of this medication with any other drugs.

11. Pregnancy and Lactation

Metformin can be administered during the period of pregnancy. DO not take Metformin during the process of breast-feeding.
